For our family and friends from out of town, we want you to enjoy the city as locals. Here are some of our favorite spots to eat, drink, and explore.
Our favorite local activities
Outdoor
Drake’s - The Barn
When we lived in West Sac, this was a go-to. They frequently have events happening and have fire pit seating areas to keep you warm this winter.
Midtown Farmer’s Market
This Saturday morning farmer’s market is ranked #3 in the USA. It spreads over blocks of the midtown Sacramento area and is definitely a must-do.
Christmas Lights in the Fab 40’s
These old victorian homes put up great Christmas lights. They usually stay up past the New Year, so while you’re here, take a drive or walk down the streets.
Restaurants
La Fiesta Alteña
There are a few locations in the greater Sacramento area. Brad and Hannah have been to the location down the street from the hospital a few times. They have a chip and salsa bar, which is Brad’s favorite thing in the world, huge margaritas, and delicious food.
Mikuni
There are also a few locations of this in the area as well. They have a robust gluten free menu and a pretty good espresso martini. The sushi options are vast and delicious. This place is a bit pricey but definitely worth your time if you like Japanese food.
Player’s
There are two Player’s just down the street from our house. Both locations have games and drinks, but only the one further away has food. The food is good and the drinks are reasonably priced. Both locations have pool tables and karaoke on different nights of the week.
Bars
Coin-Op
Hannah took Brad here on their first date. They continue coming back because of the amazing games, good pizza, and juice pouch jungle juice. Even if you’re not a drinker, this place is always a fun time because of the arcade games and photo booth.
Dive Bar
Just down the street from Coin-Op, Dive Bar is another place to go, even if you don’t plan to drink. Above the bar, there is a huge tank where mermaids do performances just about every hour of the evening, every day of the week. They also have the best DJ in town and great prices on drinks.
Kupros
On Monday nights, this old craftsman home turns into a game house. Every other night of the week, you can enjoy typical bar food and a $3 mystery beer, called beer roulette. Hang out in the living room looking rooms or the patio upstairs.
Close day trips
Lake Tahoe
If you like to ski, Lake Tahoe is the place to go. There are about 14 different resorts up there that you can choose from. If you like to look at beautiful snowy landscapes mixed with a gorgeous lake, this is also the place to go.
North Lake Tahoe is quiet and quaint, while South Lake Tahoe is more lively and entertaining.
Wine country
If you’re interested in wine, California is the place to be. Napa Valley is about two hours from our house. The area is gorgeous and has many different vineyards to pique your interest.
There are also wonderful vineyards up by Apple Hill. That area is worth visiting because of the gorgeous scenery and over 50 small, family farms.
If you’re looking for multiple tasting rooms that are closer to our area, in Clarksburg, just south of West Sacramento, there is a place called the Old Sugar Mill that has about a dozen tasting rooms in one building.
Bay Area
Although the San Francisco has turned into a crap hole, if you have not been, you really should. The Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge are sights to see. The hilly streets are fun to explore and the food is impeccable. There’s always something going on in the evening from dueling piano bars to concerts.
There are also other wonderful areas in the Bay Area other than San Francisco.
